About us.
An independent security consultancy for small business.
What Nova Sec is
Nova Sec is not an MSP and doesn't do day-to-day IT support.
How Nova Sec is paid
Most people advising you on security have something riding on the answer. Not because they're dishonest, but because they're the ones who'd supply the software, or hold the support contract, or both. That's a structural conflict, and good intentions don't remove it. Nobody audits themselves well, however hard they try.
Nova Sec makes no money from software, takes no commissions, and doesn't want your IT contract. What you need isn't shaped by what Nova Sec has to sell you.
If a licence is provisioned through Nova Sec for practical reasons, it's invoiced at cost. Any fee for managing the application appears as a separate line item.
All work is quoted and approved before it begins, so you know the cost before you commit.
Why this exists
I spent my career in federal government, defence, intelligence, telcos, finance and critical infrastructure. Those organisations get security done properly because they have to, and because they can afford to.
Small businesses face the same attackers with none of that. Most know they need to do something and have no idea where to start. The pressure is only going up, from regulators, from insurers, and from the people trying to get in. Nobody is coming to make it easier.
I grew up in Gippsland and I came back. The businesses here are the ones I want to be doing this for, and there's no good reason a practice in Warragul should have worse security than a department in Canberra.
Independence isn't a marketing angle. If you're going to advise someone, you should be free to tell them the truth, and that's hard when your income depends on the answer. It seemed like the professional way to do it, so that's how it's set up.
Supporting the community
Nova Sec provides free security support to a small number of not-for-profits and independent regional journalists each year.
